Carlisle library will have a truly international flavour this Friday (May 9) to celebrate Europe Day. The public are being invited to taste food from different European countries prepared by local chef John Crouch, test their knowledge on Europe in a fun quiz and also bag other Euro-themed freebies. The event has been organised by Europe Direct, a county council-backed service which provides a wealth of information about living and working in Europe. The event, which is taking place between 12pm and 2.30pm in Carlisle's central library in The Lanes, will pick up on the international Europe Day theme of a 'Celebration of Diversity'. Welcome packs from the Cumbria Multi Cultural Service will be displayed, alongside information on migrant workers in the county. Cllr Tony Markley, Cabinet member responsible for economic development and regeneration, said: "Europe Direct is all about opening up information channels so people can find out more about what it means to be a European resident. People may want to know more about living abroad, using a mobile phone while on holiday, organising a foreign exchange or even learning a foreign language. Events like Europe Day are a fun way of raising awareness and breaking down barriers. For more information contact Kasia Owczarek at the Regeneration Support Team: kasia@rstcumbria.org.uk |
